BANK-NOTE COPIES.
CLEVKR NEW PROCESS BY AID OF CAilEllA.
A question of great interest to'bankers and the commercial community' concern-ing,the-possibility of successfully reproducing m facsimile, by a new photomechanical process,... bank-notes, bonds, and scrip is raised by two'exhibits which were sshown for-the first time at the exhibition of the Royal Photographic Societv of Great Britain, which was opened at the gallery of the Royal Societv of British Artists, Suffolk Street, Pall Mall (says the London "Daily Mail"). Tho results of the new process, which is •tuo invention of Mr. A. E. Bawtree, I'.R.P.S., were described by Mr. ,T. M'lntosh, tho secretary of the society. -"By Mr. Bawtree's method engravings,', no matter how old, can lie exactly copied, and the whole of the ink of the engraving can bo transferred, without the use of a lens, to a glass plate, from which copper or steel plates can be made. . These etched plates, can be used in conjunction with a copper-plate printing'press to produce any number of copies. , '. "The reproductions are so exactly similar to the originals' in size, strength of colour and line, nnd all details, that there .are grounds for fearing the new method, ifit becomes known, as it is sure to be, will provo a. great source of danger unless' those who are responsible for the issuing of bank-notes, cheques, scrip, and bonds in their turn adopt, some new method for the prevention of forgerv. The details of the process are, of course, not being made public."
