OTAKI NOTES.

At a meeting of the committee of tho Otaki Lawn Tennis Club it was reported that tho prospects for the coming season wore bright, aud that the membership would be large. Owing, however, to the courts being top-dressed the season would not bo opened till October 26. Messrs. A. O. Pike, C. L. Hartmaiui, and the secretary were appointed a Match Committee. At their last parade the local territorials were equipped with further accoutrements in tlie form of belts, waterbottles, haversacks, etc. i Mrs. W. Tompsitl, who is now on holiday in Australia, has presented the Horowhenua A. and P. Association with a bracelet, which is to be awarded in the hack class. Several local bowlers attended the opening of the Foxton green this week, and spent an enjoyable day. The lccal green will be opened on AVednesday next, when a rink from Foxton is expected. At a meeting of the Horowhenua Hockey Association, the secretary (Mr. J. Davison) reported a crcdit balance, which would have been much larger had it not been for the expense in connection with tho dispatch of a representative team on tour to Wairarapa. Mr. Davison was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his work for the association, and regret was expressed that his services would not bo avail other seasons. This- week two local anglers—Messrs. Bright and M'Clelland—secured a good bag°of trout, probably the finest catch cf the season. One of the fish weighed nearly seven pounds. Tho next biggest was nearly slb.
