DECISION OF WATERSIDERS. THE HAT PIN CASEWHAT PART ARE THE STRIKE • WOMEN PLAYING ? By a majority of between 30 and 40 votes tile Wellington Waterside Workers' "Union, which is affiliated to the Federation of Labour, have decided not to "down tools"' on Saturday next. The Imllot which was taken during Tuesday and yesterday, closed last evening, and it is understood that nbont IOOIt members, out of nbont 1500, exercised their right to vote. Of the total number of votes about 10 were declarol informal. It will Ijo remembered that about 300 members of the Wellington Waterside Workers' Union met on Wednesday, October 3, and decided that the union should set aside Wednesday, October 16, as a holiday as a protest against the gaoling of Wailii men. A large proportion of the men, however, were dissatisfied with this minority decision, and subsequently a special summoned meeting was colled by .requisition. This was held last Saturday afternoon. At this meeting a resolution to the effect that a ballot be taken on the holiday question was carried. The result of this ballot is as indicated above. THREAT TO PRESS. (By Telegraph—Press Association,) Waihi, October 16. A sample of the correspondence sent to local residents:—A prominent Citizen yesterday received the following:—"You black-trimmed whiskered mongrel. If you don't alter. your hostile tactics towards (lie. Wailii Minors' Union 1 in your leading articles of your dirty gutter-snipe rag, I inform you candidly I have 250 plugs of gelignite, 100 detonators, and six coils of fuse which you shall swallow some of if you keep at the rate you are going. Now, M'Robie, I have warned yon, so beware. I am in earnest.—Only a 'Striker." HUNTLY POSITION. Auckland, October IG. Inquiries locally as to the effect, of the stoppage of coal supplies from Huiitly show there is no cause to fear any coal famine. The Ga<> Company has a largo reserve, and the managers are not in the least anxious. The Tramway Company IB adequately suppliod, having, in common with other large concerns, laid in heavy stocks for such an emergency as has arisen.
