Irani had very kindly presented to the College Library 4S volumes of "The Story of the Nations," historical series. The. gift was received with .thanks. • Professor T. 11. Laby (Pliysics Laboratory) reported that tjie electrical firm of .Messrs. Turnbull and Jones had very kindly offered to lend to the college a "Kelvin" balance, electrostatic voltmeter, anil certain resistance instrument*, to tho value of XI3, which would be of very great, value to tine students in their laboratory work. The offer was accepted, and the thanks of the- council were authorised to be conveyed to Messrs. Turnbull an.l Jones. ■Penhissijn was granted Professor Labyto send Home an order for apparatus required for the teaching of telegraphy and telephony. It was resolved: 'That a committee be appointed, to consist - .of the cJiairinan (Mr. Charles Wilson), the Hon.'H. D. Bell, Messrs. W. Ferguson, and A. !{.. Meek, to draw up a memorandum setting forth the claims which tho Victoria Collego Counoil has for special consideration by the trustees of what is known as.the 'Macarthy Fund,' such committee to report to the next mcoting of the council."
