TE ARO RAILWAY.
Sir.—l see that Mr. Jilchor has now teelred down from his.statement that Mr. Leigh Hunt had some political aspirations to serve in advocating an improvement of the above railway. Mr. Pilcher now says, as I understand, that he was' referring to Mr. J. P. Luke and myself. Any person reading his letter would certainly have thought that Mr. Hunt was the subject of a most unwarrantnblo personal attack by Mr. Pilchor. but we will accept Mr. Pilcher's excuse that he intended his remarks to apply, to others. Jor this gentleman's information I may say (and in this tho members of thecommittee of the league will bear me
out) that no question of politics has ever been imported into the matter, and that 'I. personally have studiously refrained for this very reason from talcing a prominent part either as officer or lending spokesman of the league. Mr. Pilchsr's references on this scoro are in such bad taste that I can only conclude thnt ho either has a diseased mind or that he judges other people by his own standards. Surely the time has not yet arrived when a citizen who attempts to tako an interest in a matter affecting the community goneraliy is to be at once accused of having a political axo to grind.—l am,.etc., F. G. BOLTON. 39 Johnston Street. September i, 1912.
