FIRES.
At 1.20 o'clock tiiis morning an onti« break of firo occurred at No. 1(5 Clinrlotto Street. The fire started in tho back of tho .--'ho]) which is oocupietl by Messrs. J. C. Standidge and Co., painters and papcrhangers. It appeared to liavo originated in tho coiling of the room at (he rear of (ho shop, in which room rolls of wallpaper wotp .stored. The ceiling and walls and t.hs wallpaper in stock' wore damaged by fire and valor. Tho buildins '* owned by Mr. Short, n tailor in business in Nelson. It is of wood, and it contains 15 rooms, of which 13 are occupied by Miss Howe as a boardinghouse. Tlu> furnishings of the' boardingwore undamaged. Messrs. Standidfjo's slock valued ;\t £1700 wne insured for JiiOfl in the Yorkshire Office, and .£5Ol in the New Zealand Insurance Company, Shortly before noon yesterday the Fire Bripade was called lo Ilarbour View. I?o;id, Northland, where a four-roomed house, owned by the l-'ullford Kslato, and occupied by Mr. IVrcy Smith, was on fire. Very little damage was done.
