LEAGUE GOSSIP.
Outstanding sales of tickets, etc., nnd additional returns brings Saturday's league "gato" at Newtown up to .£220. Rugby converts to tho League this week:—Finlayson (Southern) and Hngan (I'etone). Tho New Zealand representatives to play New South Wales, at Auckland, on September 7, hayo been selected. The Wellington contingent numbers four. Theso are: C; King (forward), and G. Bradley, G. Cook, and W. Kelly (backs). Tho peculiar action of the Rugby authorities in playing a cadet match on Newtown Park while J;he Wellington v. Now South Wales match was in progress was adversely commented on by numbers of those who were present at the park. Latest objection raised against tho League game: It is too fast! It does not seem to be known that, about four weeks ago, the League made an offer to the Wellington Rugby Union re tho uso of Athletic Park for the New South Wales match. It had been informally decided to let the union have 40 or 50 per cent, of tho gross "gate," which would probably have been .£4OO or .EaOO. The union, however, ignored tho League's communication altogether.
