THE CITY MARKETS.
GENERAL TONE GOOD. The general tone of the Allen and Blair Streets Markets during tho week has been good. A large Bhipment of fruit arrived by the Sydney steamer, and the better part met with a very good sale, although a considerable quantity was in bad order. Cauliflowers are now coming to hand more freely, and prices have suffered in consequence of the improved supplies. Cabbage axe- now meeting with a better demand, and values show a decided rise. A few Island oranges arrived via Auckland, and those that were in good order realised very good prices. The market is now receiving very large supplies d spring flowers, one firm alono putting up over. 5000 dozen in one morning during the week. Ruling prices are as underlsland oranges, 10s. to 18s. per case, according to condition; Sydney oranges, 9s. to lis. {>er case; mandarins, 7s. to lis. per case; Sydney lemons, 8s .to 10s. per case; Mildura lemons, lis. Gd. to 12s. (id. case; Queen pines, list to 13s. case; pineapples, 9s. to lis. cose; loquats, ss. to 7s. por quarter-case; choice passion fruit, ss. to Gs. Gd.; other sorts, Is. Gd. to 35.; Tasmanian dessert-apples, 6s. to 125.; cookers, 7s. 6d. tc 95.; local dessert, Bs. to lis.; cookers, 4s. Gd.. to 7s. Pears arrived in bad order, but made up to 7s. per half-, case; local pears being at 9s. to 10s. per half-case; A.few hothouso tomatoes realised up to Is. 4Jd. lb.,' and hothouse French beans brought Is. lb. Cucumbers sold at from 43. to 9s. per dozen, and rhubarb at from lOd. to Is. Gd. per bundle. Vegetable values are:—Choice cauliflowers, Gs. .to 7s. 6d. per sack, others 4s. to 55.; cabbage (well packed choice), from 7s. to 9s. per sack, choice ss. to Gs. Gd.,. others 3s. Gd. to 4s. Gd.; carrots, 4s. to 55.; parsnips, 3s. 6d. to 4s. Gd.; turnips, 4s. sack; swedes, 2s. to 2s. 6d. cwt.; beetroot, 3s. Gd. to 4s. 6d. .sack; choico: lettuce,-9s. to 103.; others, Gs. to-7s. Gd.; artichokes, 10s. "cwt. A further rise in potatoes is noted, the price being now £$ 10s. to „E'J per ton. | Californian and Japaneso onions are quoted at ',£22 to .£23 per ton. •Fresh eggs are worth Is. per dozen, and good lines of'poultry are eagerly sought.
