NORWICH UNDER WATER.

Telegrams from Norwich of Monday's date arrived last night stating that it had rained incessantly for seventeen hours, and that, there, were several feet of water , in nmny streets, and boats were plying about tho city. Hundreds of persons had quitted their houses, and takei* refiigo in the schools on tho higher levels. Food was being conveyed to tho schools. Businoss was at a standstill. The rainfall for twelve, hours had totalled 6.32 inches, and rain was falling. The rising waters yesterday stopped tho majority of tho dynamos on which the electric lighting was dependent, and tho city was plunged into darkness. Part of tho mound on which the Castle stands has been, washed away. King's Lynn and tho East Coast resorts aro still isolated. Further floods have occurred in Warwickshire. A goods train fell through a collapsed viaduct at Fakenham. Several conntry railway bridges in Norfolk havealso been destroyed.
WATER FAMINE FEARED. CURIOUS RESULT OP THE FLOOD. • (Eco. August 28, 11 p.m.) London, August 28. Messages from Norwich of to-day's date state that tho flood waters in the poorer quarters arc thirteen feet deep. Seren thousand persons are homeless. A water famine is threatened as tho waterworks pumping station is flooded and tho machinery is useless. The high reservoir contains only two days'- suppiy. WORST FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS. . DAMAGE ELSEWHERE. London, August 27. Owing to the floods, Norwich resembles an island city. The railways and telegraphs are interrupted. The flood is the greatest for a quarter of a century. Harvest fields aro submerged. Many houses in Huntingdon are flooded, and the inhabitants of parts of Leicester are living in tho upper stories, the lower stoTies being , invaded by water. There hare'been heavy losses of stock in tho Midlands.
