THE REVIVAL OF FRENCH BUGLE-CALLS. M. Millerand, who (luring liis term of office as the French Minister'for War has gained such widespread popularity, has recently added yet another to his popular laurels by an official memorandum restoring to tho French Army a number of bugle-calls previously abolished by an order of 1900. In his memorandum"; it. Millerand gives his reasons for his action: "The restoration' of bugle-calls, which mark the principal moments in our regimental life, cannot fail to have a happy elTeet upon the morale of the soldiers, by restoring to our barraclcs a gaiety aud animation which are from every point of view desirable. Therefore, I decide upon tho restoration of the following bugle-calls and tattoos in regiments which possess bugles and drums, or bugles alone: Reveille, Diane (which has no English equivalent), Dinner, lioll-call, and Lights-nut." Both the reform and its motive? seem wholly excellent, as the original motives for their abolition are unfathomable.—"Westminster Gazotte."
