AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. The council of tlio Now Zealand Amateur Atlilctic Association met last evening, Mr. A. A. Marryult presiding. -Messrs. 51. 11. Oram, .1. C. Cusack, T. Crouch, A. Davies, E. L. Chaft'ey, W. J', Jxirkiu, £_ and J. !•'. Thomiisim wi-ro also present. It was resolved that, the formation of a club at Blenheim be taken in hand, and ; that the Canterbury Association be written to on the matter. ]j In regard to the alleged weakness of the Otago Centre's officials at Outrain, a letter ). was received stating tliaL the Otago Association was thoroughly satisfied with the I; officials' action. The communication was received. The I'almerston North Harriers were granted affiliation, to the New Zealand ; Association. It was decided to write to the president of the Auckland Association, pointing out that no replies had been received to eer'J tain correspondence, and as grave issues to the sport were at stake, the necessary ac- ! > tiou bo taken. 0 WELLINGTON CENTRE. >. A mooting of the Wellington Ontre of tlio N.Z.A ■A A. was held last evening, i- 51r. li. \V. M'Villy occupying the chair. Tho I'almerston North Harrier Club ; wrolo applying l'or affiliation to the N.Z.A.A.A, The action of the secretary in ; forwarding the application to the council . was endorsed. The sub-committce set up to make arrangements for tlio. Now Zealand live miles cross-country chanipionship, to bo held al ! Mirntnar next Saturday, reported having received entries from Otago, Auckland, and - Wellington (two teams). The course decided upon beiug from the old golf house, '• across the flat to the gasometer, a line bein-f then taken towards the Lyall liny ; beach, and back to the golf house, by way of Scaloun Heights. This course, is h little over two miles, and will be traversed twice, with the finishing post at the gas- ' ometer (some 300 yards from the goli _ house). The sub-committee's report was ' approved. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. • A. C. Kitto, W. L. Dunn, and 11. W. Thompson was set up to moke arrangements for entertaining the visitors. The trophies will be presented at a 1 dinner to be held ou Saturday evening at c 6.30 o'clock. The report submitted by the delegates to tho Country Clubs' Conference held at Palmcrston on July 21 was discussed. Tho . shield donated by Mr. MTitlr will bo _ competed for in track championship events by country okibs. Tin; first, sports meeting ? is to be held at Feilding.
