ART IN THE SCHOOLS.
A SMALL BEGINNING. A small but auspicious beginning in the direction of introducing to the Stato Schools high-class reproductions of' the art of_ celebrated painters was made by the AVellmgton Education Board yesterday. gomo time ago tho board decided, on the initiative of Mr. Robert Lee (its chairman) to procure reproductions of high-class paintings for the schools, and authorised Mr. J. S. Tennant (then one of the board's inspectors, and now principal of. the Training College) to select some specimens during his recent stay in England. Jlr. Tennant selected four classic studies, which, in handsome frames, were displayed at the board meeting yesterday. They include one of Romney's famous Lady Hamilton.? (as Diana), the "Study of a Man" (by Titiens), a charming landscape of Macwhirter's, "A Nameless Dell," and Roe's fino study of Lord Nelson and liis-colleagues in consultation on the eve of Trafalgar. These are to be put into circulation in the principal schools, as a beginning.
