STRIKE MONEY FOR WAIHI.
A UNION IN A I'OG. (By Teleeranh.-Frcss Association.! Auckland, July 11. An unusual position has arisen in connection . with tW Auckland /Drivers' Union and tho levy to :i<sis.t tho Waihi strikers. Recently a speciul 'meeting of liho union was held, and a deputation, from the Waihi Miners' Union was received. Tho deputation put forth arguments in favour of the levy being made towards the Waihi strike fund, and two propositions wero then placed before tho meeting—ono that a levy, of 2s. per week should bo made, and tho other Chat, in« stend of a levy being made, a sum of. £60 shculd bo paid outright to the Waihi strike fund. Tho idea of tile levy mot with small support, and, eventually, (hemajority of members a.t (lie nipctii'ig decided in favour of donnling ,CliO. Later a complication aroee, iind the committee, of the Drivers' Union decided,' by six votes to four, to veto the decision of tho union, putting forth as a mam that it was not definitely known whether members could legally vote- ,£GO out cf their funds. Legal advice has since b'cen obtained by (ho committee, and they find that members wero quite within their legal rights in voting a lump sum of ,I'liO. Tho portion now is Hint n special meeting of tho union will bo held this week to finally decide as to what assistance, if any, they will give (o tho Waihi strikers.
