SOME OF THE CLUB HAPPENINGS. Evidently interest in Kugby is alive in some quarters. When the To Ante —\Yaii','amii College match was commenced at the I'almerstoii North show grounds 011 \tyjduesduv scores of the "backbone of the country" left the lecture hall, where they had been assembled to hear an address by Mr. C. «T. lieakea, the State Chief Veterinarian. This, notwithstanding, tin regard in which Mr.'Keakes is held as a man and as au agriculturist. But, then, sec what fine turnips a farmer with a good knowledge of Kugby can grow! I'ifteen ma'ches have been played between the Wanganui and To Aiilu Collegß seniors. Wanganui has S wins v-p and Te Ante V w:\ns. It was rumoured during the week that St. .Tames and Athletic intended to object to Mr. Card as referee in to-day's match, but 011 inquiry this proved to be not the case. So far as tho teams ore concerned they are both prepared to abide by the decision of the Appointment Board.
No College blow against Canterbury is to bo struck until the close of the club series. The teams, however, would have met this week it June 124 had been a holiday. As things turned out, however, the match is. now passed forward to a somewhat indefinite date.

Cook just missed liis mark in a splendid shot at go.il at llutt 011 Saturday, but found another mark in the person of a small boy, who received a resounding whack in his face. It is probable, however, that Curtayne and Fathers will now turn out. The latter has been suffering from an injured ankle, but recently he played with tho College junior fifteen at Porima, and banged oil 11 points out of 17 by goalkicking.
Tho senior clubs of Christcliurcli aro inaugurating a seven-a-sido tournament, to he held at Lancaster Park on Saturday, August 17, the proceeds of which will bo donated towards assisting to erect the training hall at Lancaster Park. Competitions will bo open to all grades, and an energetic committee has been appointed to carry out the arrangements.—"Wceklv Press."

Mr. V. G. Cavanagh, of Dunedin, was offered, but declined, tho position of manager of tho South Island minor unions' team which is to tour the North Island. Mr. Cavanagh wilt probably be found to havo charge of tho Otago team which goes north as far as Auckland this season. In tho Mclrose-Athletic match on Saturday, quite a lot of tho defence was let down on W. Marshall, Melrose full-back. It was rather more than should havo fallen to him.
