HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tho monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. There were present: Messrs. J. Wakehain (chairman), W. Galloway, T. Edwards, J. Whiteman, M. W. Welch, and W. J Howoll.
The statutory resolution was passed fixing the maximum amount of the overdraft at JJGOOO, tho same as the sum fixed for last year. It was decided to refund the amount of over-charge on rates on P. 11. Gosse's property.
The tender of Messrs, Simpson and Al'Grath for the formation of Oroiigorojigo Itoad was accepted. The District Health Officer wrote re drainage and plumbing work necessary in premises owned by A. Kouiston. The .owner was instructed' to comply with the 7iotice from tho Health Officer.
It was decided to apply for an additional JCISO for the Xgutia'wa Bridge, the amount already authorised («£200) being deemed to be insufficient.
Authority was received from the Government for the expenditure of an additional .£350 on the Mnngaron bridge. Tins was the second instalment, the first voto having been .£3OO. The total cost of the bridge is expected to be about .CCiiO. The Inspector of Works' reported that the bridge in Mongakotukutiiku Volley eust of Mr. Williams's property, needed redecking, and timber had been ordered for the purpose, and also for a small bridge to be erected on Reid's Road, near l'araparauum. He recommended that about ten chains of Rauniati Hoad, from Rinni Street to Eata Street, be metalled. Upwards of 2000 ft. of totara timber had been obtained for repairs to various small bridges in Horokiwi Riding. Tho tnetnlling of the eastern end of the Main Road in Bpiini Riding was in hand, and instructions had been given to have the Normandale I'oad repaired where ref|iiired. The road at the ispper end of Whiteman's Valley was being metalled, and similar work was being done in various parts of the country, as required. Eighty fest of stone crates were being put in at Fakuratahi River, with the co-operation of the settlers whose land was most likeiy to be affected by Hood water. The Mungaroa River bridge had been completed, and the filling-in of the approaches was now in hand, Tho Orongorongo metalling contract, had been completed according to specifications. Tho PaeKakariki syndicate roads had also been completed, and ho recommended that dedication be accepted.—Tho report was adopted. '
