WANGANUI JOTTINGS.

9 (By Toleiraph— Special Wanganui, April 21. There was a record attendance at lust night's annual meeting of parishioners of Christ Church, the vicar, the Kev. 11. Keeve, remarking that it was the best parish meeting he had seen since his arrival in New Zealand. Messrs. W. A. Dnrcy and T. Price were appointed vicar's mid parishioners' churchwardens respectively. A motion was passed appreciative of the work of tho late vicar, Archdeacon Jacob. It was also resolved to write lo the Bishop of Wellington and the Diocesan Trustees inviting them to visit Wanganui at mi early dale to go into the mutter of cutting up for lease the remaindor of the church aero (half of which is already leased), and procuring of. a site for a new church.

The small amount (X 750) promised by the Government towards what will provethe somewhat costly work of protecting the Taylorville river bank has caused still another postponement of this long-delay-ed and necessary safeguard for the travelling public. The suburban and country todies will not consider the matter of bearing the cost unless more substantial help is given, as they contend that the matter is not one of merely local importance The Wanganui Borough Council, which is taking the lead in the. matter, therefore again deferred it to ascertain if there is any possibility of an increase in the Government subsidy. What everyone in Wanganui heartily hopes will be the end of the long-standing and unseemly squabble over the borough engineer was arrived at last evening by the Wanganui Borough Council, which passed a resolution rescinding soveral motions previously carried. Last night's resolution accepts the engineer's reply lo the ex-Mayor's (■barges as satisfactory, and cancels the decision advising him to seek more congenial employment.
