PETONE. MB. J. W. M'EWAN RE-ELECTED. Petone electors showed at yesterday's poll that they have an infinite faith in Sir. J. AV. Jl'Ewan as Mayor. Tho contest was of the "no-race" order, the sitting Mayor recording nearly three tunes more votes than his opponent, Mr. J. Piper. The figures were as follow:— Mr. J. AV. M'Ewan 1121! Mr. J. Piper *21 Majority for Mr. M'Ewan 70:! There wore seven informal votes. Mr J. AV. M'Ewan. who has been returned as Mayor of Petoue for the sixth time, was born in the Auckland district in 185 S. He served on the Petone Borough Council for six years, from 1900 to 1903, and from 190-1 to 1907, in which latter year lie v;as elected Mayor for tho first time. Besides his Mayoral duties he ,has been associated with the Wellington Harbour Board and the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board of AVcllingtou as representative for Petone.

LOWER HUTT. MR. E. P. BUNNY KE-ELECTED. There was rather a keen contest for the Mayoralty of Lower Hutt. where the sitting Mayor (Mr. E. P. Bunny) was opposed by Mr. H. Baldwin, who formerly occupied , 'a seat on the Borough Council. The voting proved to be very close, only a round hundred- separating the two candidates at the finish. The result was as follows:— Mr. E. P. Bunny 6G3 Mr. H. Baldwin 5G3 Majority for Mr. Bunny ... 100 There were ten informal votes. After the poll was declared, Mr. Bunny briefly thnnked the electors for having returned him to office. Hβ would have pleasure in giving effect to the policy set out in his speeches, which he felt wa-s for the good of the borough. Mr. Baldwin also thanked all those who recorded thoir votes in his favour. It had been a keenly, cleanly-contested fight throughout. Mr. Bunny is a member of one of the best-known "families in the Wellington district, and !3 oue of the bost-known legal practitioners in the city. He lias alwave taken a lively interest in the municipal affairs of the Lower Hutt, where lie resides. He was Mayor of the Lower Hutt in its earlier years, and in 1909 once more came out as Mayor, and defeated Mr. AV. H. ■Russell. Tn 1010 he defeated the snms gentleman bv 107 votes, and in 1011 defeated Mr. 11. Baldwin by 171 votes. KARORI. ME. CHAS. CATHIE KE-ELECTED, The cont&st for the Karori Mayoralty reeulted in the return of the fitting Jlaror, ilr, Chas, CutMe, who ttfld a

Mr. Charles Cathie, \yho has been relumed for the second, time (the first unopposed) as Mayor of Kurori, is. the head oi n large, dothing mauufacturm;; firm in Wellington. He has been a roident of Karori for Ihe past nineteen years, and was previous to that a resident of Wellington city. Mr. Cathie was born in Edinburgh in 18J0. ONSLOW. MB. .HOLDSWORTH RE-ELECTED. Mr. Frank Holdsworth was re-elected Mayor of Onslow. The voting was as follows:— Mr. Frank Holdsworth 190 Mr. Charles Mainwaring 91 Informal 2 Majority 99 Mr. Frank Holdsworth, elected Mayor of Onslow for tho second time, is a Wellington barrister and solicitor. He is a son of the late Mr. J. G. Holdsworth, at one time Commission of Crown Lands in Wellington. He was hornin 1871. and was educated at the Terrace School and Wellington College. Tor some years he was n well-known cricketer, and on several occasions represented tho province. MIRAMAR. MR.'M'LEOD ELECTED. The Miramar elections resulted in the return of Mr. Norman Henry M'Leod as Mayor, and Messrs. Henry Alfred Smith and Alexander Grig? as councillors, vico Messrs. Richards (who resigned to contest the Mayoralty); and Lawrence (rcsigued). In the Mayoral contest tho polling was as follows:— . Mr. Hector M'Leod is not new to municipal politics in Miramar, having been a member of the council for several vears. As a resident of the district, ho lias always taken the liveliest interest in its affairs and history. He is a wellknown land agent, and. in, that regard has had much to do with the sale of Miramar lands. He is an enthusiast in Boy Scout matters, and is scoutmaster of the Wellington troop. > When the. result of the poll for • tho Miramar Mayoralty had been announced last evening the successful candidate (Mr. H. N: M'Leod) addressed gatherings °f electors at Worser Bay and Seatoun. Mr. M'Leod returned thanks, for the honour done him, and paid a tribute to the good feeling shown by his opponent (Mr. H. E. Richards). Concluding, Mr. M'Leod expressed a hone that the confidence placed in him would l)c merited by his future actions. Mr. Richards also addressed the electors, as did the successful and unsuccessful candidates for seats on the council. Later on Mr. M'Leod addressed the electors at-Miramar.-EASTBOURNE. ME. H. W. SHORTT RE-ELECTED. The election of a Mayor for Eastbourne, djd not create any stir in the borough. What little excitement might have been caused by the contest was pretty effectively settled by the persistent rain which fell throughout the dny on both sides of the harbour. The result was the return of Mr. H. W, Shortt (sitting Mayor) by a tnajority of 61 over his opponent, Mr. W. Hobbs. The polling was as follows:— ' Hobbs. Shortt. In town 87 128 At Eastbourne 42 62 129 190 ■ Majority for Mr. Shortt. 61. There were two informal votes. Mr. H. W. Shortt was born in Es?ex, 35 years ago . He was educated at the Mount Cook Boys' School in Wellington, and has resided hero ever since. He has been associated with his father in business in Willis Street for several years, and with him has been closely.associated with the development of Eastbourne. Ho was elected Mayor of Eastbourne in 1910, when he beat Mr. Hobbs by 10D votos, and was returned again in 1911, when he beat Mr. David Robertson by 93 votes.
