TOTALISATOR COMMISSION.
A SPORTSMAN'S OPINIONS. . By Telegraph—Press ABeoclation-GoDyrisht (Rec April 2*, 8 p.m.) Sydney, April 24. ' The Totalisator Commission examined Mr. JCnox, chairman of the Australian Jockey Club, who said that from the club's point of view the totalizator would • have advantages nnd disadvantage?. It would cast ,£IO,OOO to instal the system at Eandwiek, and on the other hand it would -enable the club to increase the stakes, and lovel small up to big stakes, and it would prove a check on corrupt practices. He opposed the totalisator if it meant Governmental or political control of racing. No doubt a majority of racegoers favoured the machine, as it would result in suppressing big punters, and probably cause an improvement in the breeding of thoroughbreds. About J!700,000 was yearly bet at Kandwick, and apart from expenses the club now took JE120.000 annually. If it got per cent, from the totalisator takings it would get gbout =£40,000 above expenses.
