HIBERNIAN SOCIETY.
A CHAPLAIN HONOURED. The high esteem and regard with which Hie Rev. Father C. J. Venning-, 5.M.,, is held by the Hibernians of Wellington was evidenced by the large gathering of members that attended St. Patricks Hull on Monday evening-. The hall was crowded, and Bro. ,T. J. 1,. Burke, president of St. Patrick's Branch No. 95, presided, and in saying farewell to the Rov. Father Venning, as chaplain of St. Patrick's, expressed, on behalf of the members, the sorrow that they experienced when it was announced that the Rev. Father had handed in his resignation as chaplain, owing to his transference from the Te Aro parish to Thormlon. He eulogised the services rendered to St. Patrick's by the Rov. Father during his four years' chaplaincy. . In conclusion, he was glad to inform Father Venning that St. Patrick's thought too highly of him to lose him altogether, and therefore took the precaution of electing him a life honorary member of tlso branch. He also had a pleasant duty to perform, and that was to present, on behalf of St. Patrick's. Father Venning with a framed illuminated emblem certificate, as a slight appreciation of the Rev. Father Yennine, on vising to respond, was most enthusiastically received. He expressed his deep gratitude for the honour conferred on him. am] thanked the speakers for the many kind references made to him. He hoped to be spared to continue his energies on behalf of Ihe society. It, was his desire to sec n branch established in every parish. Imd. he stated, a difficult task before him, considering the great work his predecessor had done before, but lie would do his best to keep up the spirit of the society.
