. « (From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, April 22. At a meeting of directors of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society on Saturday Mr. G. M'Hattie resigned Ins position as a director, and was appointed an honorary life director. Arrangements were made for tho annual general meeting on tlie second Saturday m May. , The Opaki Kifle Club fired tho final stage for tho season's aggregates on Saturday. The result was that Mr. H. K. King, a sou of Mr. K. J. King, the veteran shot, becomes champion for the Ull-i----scason. His scoro was 3GG, the runner-up being Mr. G. Hyde, with a score of 35b. Mr 11. K. King also wins a trophy tor tho highest aggregate, including handicaps over two seasons. . During the past shooting season the Opaki Club has won •no fewer than six teams' matches, lnclnci; ing the New Zealand champion teams match. „ ~ , _ ~ A team from tho Featherston Bowling Club played Messrs. Inder and 0. Pragnell on the Masterton green on Saturday last for the Grady medals. The Masterton team succeeded in retaining the medals by 23 points to 15. ~,,'• Mrs. A. C. Scrimgeour met with a painful accident on Saturday evening. She was descending the stairway in the Prince of Wales's Hotel, when her foot slipped, and she fell, fracturing her left wrist and sustaining other injuric-s. At a meeting of delegates of the various trades unions held in Masterton on Saturday evening it was decided to organise a combined social gathering for May Ifi. Mr. John Prior, an old resident ol Eketahunn, died in tho Masterton Hospital vestcrdav. at the age of 85. Mr.' K. IT. Bligh, of the White Cross League, delivered a series of addresses in the Masterton Town Hall yesterday. The Masterton Boxing Club has secured the services of Professor C. Richardson as instructor for the ensuing season. The first class is to be held this evening. Memorial services in connection with the Titanic disaster wer> held in most of the Masterton churches yesterday. Considerable interest is being manifested in the Mayoral election, which takes place on Wednesday. The result is exnectcd to he very close. Both candidates have addressed public meetings. HUTT-AND PETONE NEWS. (From Our Special Correspondent.) 0 ■ The Hon. .T. Colvin, in the unavoidable absence of the Prime Minister, opened n Catholic bazaar and carnival at the King George Theatre, Lower Hutt. last evening. Tho stalls were laden with goods, and prettily decorated, and good business was done during the evening. The proceeds are in aid of a new convent bnildine, which is to be erected at Lower Hutt. There are_ several side-shows at the bazaar, which will be continued throughout tho week, and last evening an enjoyable prograimno of national dances was contributed by Misses M. and L. I?eid (of Wellington), and Miss O'Leary.
At a special meeting of the Petone Borough Fire Board held yesterday, Mr. Cracroft 'Wilson was appointed secretary to the board at a salary of £25 per annum. The meeting was held in committee, but it was afterwards reported that several alterations to the new fire station wero decided on.
