A TRIP TO CANADA.
FOE TWENTY CADETS,
Cabinet has approved of a proposal that twenty Senior Cadets proceed to Canada in response to an invitation to compete at the Canadian National Exhibition, la be held this year at, Toronto. The com. petitions will' consist of physical drill, drill, mid shooting matches, * details oi which will be published immediately on receipt from Canada. The Canadian authorities undertake to provide all transport by sea and rail, also to board and lodge the cadets from day of embarkation to day of disembarkation on return to New Zcalmid. The contingent will leave New Zealand in time to arrive iu loronto on or just before Augusta, 1912. . Cadets to be eligible lmist pass a medical lesti-Hpij-ht from sft. Gin. to sft. 3in.i chest relaxed, Mill, to :«in„ inflated, .'Hill, lo 35in.; age, 16 to IS years. Each one must have been an efficient cadet from the age of M, smart at drill, a good shot, lit for competition, and still serving. An officer accustomed to Senior Cadets, preferably from one of the high schools or colleges, will he selected to take charge of the contingent. Before proceeding to Canada, the cadets will be assembled in or near Wellington for a month's training. During their absence from their homes a part of each day will be devoted to some school work similar to that which they would be engaecd ill if attending a school or college, but the selection will not be confined to schools and colleges. Uniforms for parades and exercises will he provided as follows:—1 complete uniform for dress parades', 1 complete working uniform. One jersey, boots, shirts, and underclothing will also be provided. Plain clothes will not ho permitted; tho cadets must wear uniform during tho whole period they arc absent from (heir homes. Pocket-money provided by parents or guardians will' he administered or issued by Uie officer in charge. There arc four groups in each of tho four inilitary districts. Each group will provide one cadel, and each city group will select an additional cadet. 'Twenty will be obtained iu all, being five from each military district. Officers commanding districts will select (he five-cadets considered most suitable to represent the district, and on May ,10 will forward to headquarters the names, addresses, and description of the cadets selected. The consent of parent or guardian must be given in writing before any lad will be accepted into the contingent, Service with the contingent will count as qualifying service under the Defence Act. Colonel A. W. Jtobin, Adjutant-Genera!, has advised all officers commanding districts to the above effect.
