MR. ATMORE'S POSITION

Sir,—ln your issue of .March 2-f, -Mr. A. A. Grnco writes that Mr. Atmorc was "perfectly consistent" in his vote for tho Government, and that your correspondent, "Let-Hie Truth Prevail," was twisting the truth when •he said "that Mr. Atmorc most certainly allowed and led his supporters to infer that he was out against the Ward or any similar Administration." 1 should like to ask Mr. Grace a few questions. If Mr. Atmorc did not pose as against the Ward Administration, why, out of all tlio Jive candidates, including two openly declared Opposition candidates, did he make the m«t bitter and persistent attacks, not only on the Ward Administration, but upon Sir Joseph Ward hiinsMf and l'is baronetcy? Why did all the staunch Government supporters, including Mr. A. A. Grace, show that they considered Mr. Atmur-j against tho Cl'.veriimeut by strongly opposing his candidature? Why did Mr. Grace, who was formerly chairman ci My. Jlehu Graham's oommitho, the former Government memb?r for Nelson, take up tho chairmanship of Mr. Macinahon's committee (the accredited Government candidate), and, afta , that gentleman's defeat in tho first ballot, why did Mr. Grace head tho rally around another Government candidate, Mr. MolTatt, who fought the second ballot against Mr. Atmcre? Mr. Moft'att's committee was enlarged, and Mr. A. A. Grace accepted the chairmanship. Mr. John Graham, e.v-M.r., also threw himself into the breach and called on all Government supporters to come to the rescue and to op[wse Mr. Atinore, who had the Opposition vote with him in practically a solid block. How could Mr. Atinore have had this Opposition vote solid if he had not "certainly allowed and led his supporters to infer that he was out against the Ward Administration"* , Mr. Grace is, no doubt, very jubilant over Mr. Atmcre's unexpected vote for the Government, but it is disingenuous to praise Mr. Atinore as consistent and to try and persuado the Opposition voters that they have not been sold. —1 am, etc., NKLSON VOTER. [If Mr. Grace cares to reply*, his letter must close this discussion for the time.]
