Personally, Mr. Colvin stihl, his own interests were bound up in tho mining industry, and ho had « great deal of sympathy fir the industry, which lie considered as ono of the best colonisers in tho world. All hie life he had boon cither engaged in mining m- in business connected with tho industry. IJo vecognited that ho had a hard up-hill climb in following his predecessor (tho Hon. K, M'Kenzic), but ho intended exerting his utmost endeavours to push ahead the mining industry in all its phases—gold, coal, and oil. Ho hoped to bo nbio, on his present visit to tho West Coast, to visit tho State .coal mines nt Kunauga and Scdclonville, as well as different mining centres.

Asked if there , were any recent developmenls in connection with (he Koluku oilfields, Jlr. Colvin replied that he possessed no oth'cial information, but. he learned from a gentleman who recently visited the field that the prospects were improving. Mr. Culvin leaves by the C'ass train to-morrow morning for tho West Coast.
