ADDRESS TO SIR JOSEPH WARD.
SECOND PUBLIC MEETING. A second meeting of citizens desirous of promoting a testimonial (in tho shape of an illuminated-address) to Sir Joseph Ward, was held in the Chamber of Commerce last evening. There were fortyone persons present, a few Indies being included in the number. Mr. 11. C. Tewsley, who presided at tho previous meeting, again took the chair, He explained that the meeting on Saturday night had been adjourned in order that a better opportunity might bo afforded of seeing what the prospects were of getting up a successful function, and of determining the time at which it should bo held. Along with a sub-com-miltce, ho had called upon Sir Joseph Ward that morning, and had found that tho time that would suit him best would be the first week in May. It was for tho meeting that evening to make its arrangements accordingly. Sir Joseph Ward had a good many appointments to fill between now and Easter .'week. After Easter he would go south, and from there to Australia, so that it would not be possible for them to work up, at an earlier date than he had indicated, a function of such a nature as to fulfil the end they had in mind. They wished lo have an overflowing Town Hall audience, and were sure of getting it. He had received a number of apologies for non-attend-ances from gentlemen anxious to join in and assist. The committee had received gratifying evidence that whatever was decided upon would be carried out with tho utmost enthusiasm. He had not the slightest hesitation in telling them that thev were going to have a'riiost successful'and bumper night. (Applause.) At this stage, on Mr. Towsley's suggestion, tho meeting went into committee to consider matters of detail.
