CITY AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. Tho fortnightly meeting of the Wellington City Council was held last night. The Acting-Mayer iMr. John Smith) presided, and there were also present: Councillors George Frost, F. Cohen, J. E. Fitzgerald, John Fuller, jim., A. R. Atkinson, W. H. P. Barber, Jamas Godber, ,T. Trevor, G Shirtcliffe, A. 11. Hindmarsh, L. M'Kcnzie. It. Fletcher, and It. A. Cameron. It was decided:
(1) That the water supply to Patanga Crcsent (formerly Karori 'Crosofnt) be improved, at an estimated cost of Jan. (2) That the City Engineer be authorised to make provision in next vear's estimates for such public conveniences as in his opinion are most urgently required. A petition from the council's coach painters for an increase of wages was not gianled. The tenders of Messis. Lawrence and Hanson for the supply of electrical sundries and for cables ami copper-wiro was accepted. The council resolved that its previous offer with respect to land taken for tramv:ay purposes nt Wadestown, owned by Mr. A. A. AVii'.in, be adhered to. It was decided to inform the Mirnmar Borough Council that the council adheres to its previous resolution with respect to the borough's proposal to supply poweT to the tramcars running within the borough.. "With regard to representations of the Kilbirnie Ratepayers Association, wfth respect to lire appliances in that district, the Tire Brigade Committee will further consider the matter on the arrival of the new motor for the Newtown dislriut. The tenders of Messrs. Whik'omboaml Tombs for the siipnly of books and periodicals for Die Public Library, and (hat of Messrs. Turnbull, llickson, and Goodir for the bookbinding work, were accepted.
