THE NEW MUSEUM.
CONSTRUCTION AUTHORISED,
A Into net of the Ministry which hal just retired was to authorise tho con* slruction of tho new Dominion Museum on tho site now occupied by tho Parliamentary tennis courts. It is stated, howover, that unless tho decision is' reversed it will entail a reconstruction of tho policy outlined some timo ago in. regard to tho erection of Departmental offices to replaco the big wooden building on Lambton Quay. Tho latter 6ito, under tho schema outlined, was to bs lcasod for business purposes. Tho schome contemplated tho erection of Departmental buildings on tho laud fronting Sydney Street, including tho tennis courts ana the land adjoining tho General Sssombly Library. If tho tennis courts are to bo used as a museum site, tho scheme would appear to have- been abandoned. An alternative suggestion has been made that tho projected street alterations in connection with tho preparation, of tho sito of tho now Parliament Buildings will considerably enlarge tho sito now occupied by tho museum, and maks it sufficiently extcMivo to accommodate a now building. Tho present Museum Street is to bo thrown into tho museum grounds.
