FIRE AT WAIROA.
BOROUGH RECORDS DESTROYED.
(By ToleKrapli.—Press Association.) 1 Wairoa, March 28. A serious fire occurred on the Marine Parade at 12.45 this morning. Corkill's new double-story building, occupied as Borough Council Chambers, and T. J3. Bnx, fruiterer and auctioneer, together with a cottage at the rear, owned by Mr. Corkill, and occupied by M'Kenzio and Wilkins, and a bicycle depot owned by J. Powdrell, were all burnt to the ground. Tho firo started ih v :"i3ax's office. There wero no fire-fighting appliances, and tho fire, burning fiercely, soon attacked tho cottage at tlio rear. Then Wiikins's fell a prey, and tho conflagration was only stopped at the Bank of New Zealand by a brick wall, and on the other side by a new ferro-concrcto building. Tho Borough Council loses all its records, and the winners at tho late A. and P. Show lose .£l5O worth of prizes. Insurances.—Corkill, 41500 on tho shop, JCIOO on tho cottage, additional loss, JMSO.
