Tho-proposed new Grammar School to be built on a. site granted by tho Defence Department at Mount Eden, was discussed at a meeting of tho Auckland Grammar School Board. TIIO chairman (Sir Maurice O'Konrke) said 110 duubted whether so large a sum as .£50,(100 could bo obtained at tiio present crisis, but the committeo had n-.ado n recommendation and if it were carried 'it would be given effect to. lie did not know whether there was nny precedent for such a largo grant. Mr. Tibbs said Nelson College had roreived a largo grant, and a grant of at least .£IO,OOO had been niailc to Wellington College. It was resolved to ask the Government for n grant of .£20,000 towards tho total cost of .MO.OCO which would probably. !x> required for Ihe erection of a new' school and boardinghouse.
