AUCKLAND GRAMMAR SCHOOL
GRANT OP .{20,000 SOUGHT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Auckland, March 28. Tho-proposed new Grammar School to be built on a. site granted by tho Defence Department at Mount Eden, was discussed at a meeting of tho Auckland Grammar School Board. Tho Mount Kden School Committee submitted a recommendation which was agreed to, that the now school should bo designed to accommodate GOO boys. The, question of providing funds for tho ereotion of (he school was reported upon by tho committee., which recommended that applications should bo made to tho Government for .£IO,OOO for tho main building, and for ,£IO,OOO for tho proposed boardinghouse. TIIO chairman (Sir Maurice O'Konrke) said 110 duubted whether so large a sum as .£50,(100 could bo obtained at tiio present crisis, but the committeo had n-.ado n recommendation and if it were carried 'it would be given effect to. lie did not know whether there was nny precedent for such a largo grant. Mr. Tibbs said Nelson College had roreived a largo grant, and a grant of at least .£IO,OOO had been niailc to Wellington College. It was resolved to ask the Government for n grant of .£20,000 towards tho total cost of .MO.OCO which would probably. !x> required for Ihe erection of a new' school and boardinghouse.
