HILL TO LEAVE AS OXCE. Strenuous efforts are being made to raise sufficient money to send_ Messrs. u. N. Hill (runner) ana A. T. Wilding (tennis) its the New Zealand representatives to the Olympic Games at Stockholm in June-July next. The total expenses will cmount to approximately JE2OO. So far tlio council liavo in hand about XUO,collected as follows:—From Auckland, .£"5; festival of Empire Committee balauce, >£30; New Zealand Sports Protection League, J6JIO 10s.; N.Z.A.A.A., .£lO 10s.-. Wellington Boxing Association, <£") 55.; Wellington Licensed Victuallers' Association, .£3 lis. In addition to this tlicro is another «t2O in view in small donations. It is with the object of raising the balance required —about .£6o—that tlio council decided to issue, subscription lists. These have been handed to each member of the council, who will acknowledge all subscriptions. A meeting of the Olympic Council tor New Zealand was held in the offices of Mr. G. S. Hill on Tuesday evening. Present: Messrs. Marryatt (chairman;, Keesing, Pollock, Hanua, Hill. Bayfield, Davies, and Guise. The chairman explained that since last meeting the sub-committee .from tlio council waited on the Prime Minister and explained to liiin that, as the amount required to send representatives to the Olympic Games was so small, the council wished to withdraw the application for a Government subsidy made by the Auckland Committee. Correspondence was received from tb© New Zealand Sports Protection League donating ,£lO 10s. to the funds. From the Wellington Licensed Victuallers donating; J-'.'i 3s. The donations were received with thanks. The Otago Lawn Tennis Association,' Otago Centre N.Z.A.A.A., Southland Centre N.Z.A.A.A., and P. N. Rundle, Diinedin, intimated by letter that they would be unable to assist in increasing the fund. A cablegram was received from Arnold, Sydney, advising the council to book Hill's berth through the TJ.S.S. Co., and that'a berth was available 011 the Ostcrley. On the motion of Mr. Hanna, seconded by Mr. Davies, it was decided to take out a berth for Hill through the Union S.S. Company, if possible liis passage to be booked right through to Stockholm; Hill to leave Auckland on Monday next. It was also decided that 11 letter lie. sent to Hill giving him instructions and setting out the conditions under which lie was being sent. Tlio secretary was also, instructed to hand Hill letters of introduction to the '.Olympic Committee's representative and Mr. Arnold (secretary). The chairman reported that so far the council's funds amounted, with promises, to about .£llO, and ho suggested that in ordfcr to raise the other t£GO required, subscription lists should be issued to the councillors. In agreeing with the chairman's suggestion, members of the council spoke very strongly of the action of sports bodies in other centres in refusing to assist in what should be, and is, a national affair.
