BECK OFFICERS' PAY.
COMPANIES' OFFER NOT ACCEPTED,
Months ago, when tlio officers of tho mosquito fleet trading to Wellington struck for higher pay, a movement was sot nfoot to secure better pay and better working conditions for the officers of the larger ships belonging.to the Union Sfonm Ship Company and tho Huddart-Parker Proprietary, trading along the New Zealand coast's. A confercncc was held at Dunedin between the managers of the companies and Captain 1). G. AVatson, representing tho Merchant Service Guild, and at that conference tho companies 111'ade proposals to the officers. A postal vote was taken on tho question of whether tho terms offered should bo acecpled, and tho officers decided hot to accept them. Nothing mors has been done in the meantime, but tho conference is _to bo re-opened on Monday next. Mr. P. lljiH.v. Conciliation Commissioner, goes south to preside, and Captain Watson will also leave at the end of. the week to represent the Merchant Service Guild.
