HONEY PROSPECTS.
OUTLOOK NOT VERY FAVOURABLE. The Director of Orchard?, Gardens, and Apiaries division, of the Agricultural Department, has received the following reports on the honey-crop prospects from tlio Apiary Instructors under his control:— '< Auckland.—Xorth Auckland: Very fair, so far. Waikfito: Poor; only half crop. Thames Valley: Half crop; possibly will improve, as tho pennyroyal is plentiful here. To Awamutu: Prom reports re;ceived there are indications of a fair crop. Owing to the late season the honey generally will be of a superior quality than tho usual. Wellington.—East Coast: Jfucli below tho average. West Coast: Little or no surplus. Taranaki Province: Much below tho average all through. Hawke's Bay ami Poverty Bay: A very poor honey crop is being pthered there this season. Canterbury—Present conditions for honey crop arc poor. We cannot expect amhoney unless better weather conditions aro experienced. Otago.—There, is every indication that the honey' crop in Otngo and Southland will bo small, possibly the smallest on record for many seasons past. Extracting has not yet commenced iu many districts, but where a start has been, made returns are very unsatisfactory. In the bush districts tho returns' are better, 'but not up to the average. Tho bush honey is of indifferent flavour, dark, and does not meet with ready sale.
