PERSONAL ITEMS.
This evening the Governor will leave Auckland by express for Wellington. On Saturday he will lay the foundation stone of the new Parliament Buildings. On March 23 his Excellency will lenvc in the Hinemoa on a trip to the north, returning to Auckland on April 4—Press Association. Mr. D. H. Guthrie, member for Oroua, is at present on a visit to Wellington. _ Mr. 11. E. Dryden, of Karori, representative of the Wellington Gas Company, leaves by the Maunganui to-day for'a holiday trip to Melbourne and Sydney. He will be accompanied by Mrs. Drvden. -Mrs. C. E. Tustin, of Wanganui (Mrs. Dryden's sister), will also bo a passenger by the saino steamer. Mr. J. F. Arnold, sometimo member of Parliament representing Dunedin Central, is now a temporary clerk in tho Labour Department. Messrs. 11. C. Tewsley, A. A. Corrigan, and W. G. Duthie, all of whom will I;a absent from the Dominion for tho greater part of the year, will not seek re-election to tho Council of the Chamber of Commerce. Messrs. Duthie and Corrigan are to represent tho Chamber at the eighth Congress of Chambers of Commei'co of the Umpire to he held in London in June. Mr. It. E. Mauley has been appointed canvasser for the Wellington Citizens' League. Mr. A. G. Thynne, who oamo from Canada to represent Messrs. Pilkington Bros., Ltd., St. Helejis, England, has now retired from New' Zealand, his placo being filled by their former resident agent,Mr. Adckrl'ey Willcocks. Mr. J. W. Henderson has definitely decided not to become a candidate for tho Mayoralty of Karori. Mr. T. E. Y. Se<ldou. M.P.. who went, across to Sydney to meet his mother and sister on their return from England, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Maunganui.
Mr. W. E. Fuller, manager for Messrs. Levin and Co.'s coastal shipping department, returns from the south by the Mararoa this morning.
Tho Hon. A. T. Ngata, who met with an accident near his home at Kaknriki recently, is reported to be making favourable progress towards recovery. Mr. Ngata was kicked in tlio chest by a horse. —Press Association.
Among the passengers Who arrived in Wellington by the Maunganui from Sydney yesterday was the Rev. Grant Cowan, wlio'is about to take up Church work in Die Hiinlcrville district.
Mr. E. Millhauser, general manager for Australasia of tho New York Standard Varnish Works, arrived in Wellington by tho Maunganui from Sydney yesterday. Mr. Millhauser is accompanied by Mr. J. Payne, the company's New Zealand representative. They proceed through to Dunodin to-day. Mr. Millhauser returns to Wellington later, proceeding thenco to Auckland, to join the Mnraina en route to New York.
Mr. E. Armit. of the "Evening Post" literary staff, who resigned his position last year in order to visit tho Old Country and Europe, arrived back in Wellington by the Mauuganui yesterday.
Messre. A. M. Myers, A. E. Glover, J, Pavne, H. Poland, T. W. Rhodes, and J". 'Coates, M.P.'s, left Auckland for Wellington last night to attend tho meeting of tho Liberal party.—Press Association.
All the Ministers are now in town, with the exception of the Hon. A. T. Ngata, who is expected to arrive this evening.
Mr. C. Smith, who is leaving for England to-morrow, was entertained nt a farewell gathering by his friends of the Wellington Bowling Club, of which he is n member.
