THE ' WEDNESDAY CONTESTS. UNION GO DOWN, A JUNIOR DEAD HEAT. The third series of matches in the second round of Ihe mid-week competition s was concluded yesterday afternoon. The wickets were in good condition after the rain of the previous niaht. Rivals had the honour of defeating Union by lKi'riui* on tho lir-t innings. Union had not previously sustained defeat this season. The 10.-ers," in their lir-t innings were all out for the small score of B'.). On the call of time Union were still at the wickets, and Rivals had to be. content with a two-poiiit win. Davis (Rivals) was:very lucky in reaching fili before ''he was caught in the deep-lield; he was missed at :H and again at 30. Vare batted well for 11 before he was run out. The match will be finished at tho end of the season. The junior competition resulted in a dead heat between Union and Artillery.
