Karly in (ho morning the weather appeared quite settled for the Autumn meeting of the Dnnnevirke Racing Club. A very large crowd turned uit, but before the racing was half over a misty rain came on and crowds left the course; Although the races were started on nn average thirty-minutes late, tho totulisaior was compelled to shut out large sums in cash race. The crowd, scorned to be much in advance of ,\vhat was expected,' and no extra facilities were provided. Large fields wero-tho order of the day, and, as is often the ca?e when there are a lot of runners, backers of the favourite fared badly. • . Proceedings commenced with the Trial Stakes, for which twenty-two runners stepped out. After a couple of ■ false starts, tho big field moved oil' in Indian file. Miss Augusta was the first to show out, and under a strong pull she Ciiine into tho straight -with Galtee and Ep- ■ worth. The latter had come from a long way back, and failed to sustain his run, Mi.ss Augusta winning by half a length from Galtee. :Abpi-brothpck, Cork, and Misoal were tho favourite selections, in (ho Cup field, but the winner turned up in tho Welling-ton-owned Hon. Queen. From a fair start all moved off well except Golden l.ur.p. ,lust after the start Loch Mabin got. on to another horse's heels, and came down, his rider escaping injury. Queen o' Scots led at a fast, pace for a mile, when she tired, and Miseal, with Golden Loop, took up the running. Cork eamo fast in the straight, and headed this pair, but failed to shake off Sea Queen, whom Jl'Mullen brought along with a good run, and won by half a. length. Miseal and Golden Loop were well clear of the others. ' The favourite ran badly, and showed no dash at all.Adare on Oie rails was Iho quickest tn begin in the Hack Welter, but Kiugswell soon joined him, and the pair ltd to the turn. Just, before-entering the straight Mallow came very fasl, but was cannoned into, and his chances settled. Adare was leading when they were in'a line for home-, but Mangnroa came fast.on the. outside and won in commanding style. The winner is a full sister to Kopu, whom she ii'iic'h resembles. Kurapolangi finished very fasl, mid pot fourth place. All the acceptors went to the post for the Nursery "Handicap. Peroneal nnd Alr.ster Kilclieron were the first away, followed bv Daybreak and King's Fuvonrilo. Master Kilch'eran was being ridden to keep his position. Al the bottom p.f the straight where the field was in a line Warlight: eamo fast, on the extreme outside, but failed away again. Evadno shook herself clear a hundred yards off the post, and won bv three lengths. Peroneal was a neck away ahead of Master. Ifilcheran. Daybreak," King's Favourite, and Warlight were close', up. There was some delay at the barrier in the Electric. Hack Handicap, cau.-cd. by Makara souring and refusing to join his field. He got off badly when the tapes wont up, and Wee Ro.'p led from Emma and a bunched field. At the bottom of the straight Thrave joined Wee Rose, and Makara led the rest. Thravo came on full of running- and won by a length. Septimus was just clear of Wee Rose. Khamsin'goi n flying start in the Tamaki Welter, and won nil the way. St. Toney and Golden Water were the last to leavo the mark, but tho former put in a good effort, and was only a neck away from Sentondale at the finish. Heavy rain fell before the last event, which was a good betting race, and went to the favourite, after a good struggle. Easy was the first to make a move, but tho'field" soon closed on, her. Later on Allurement and Ladrone were out by themselves just, clear of Avaunce. Tho last-named came fast on the outside, and, beating everything for puce, rnn in a winner bv a length. San l'liiio came from a long w'av back and got third money.
