The member for Palmorslon (Mr. D. Huielt) returned thither on Saturday. Sir Arthur and Lady Guinness left for Lyttolton on Saturday night, intending to pr.'ter'd to Greyimnith by Tuesday's train and coach. Mr. J. A. Jlanan, M.1 , , for Invereargill, and Mr. .1. C. Thomson, member for Wallace, will leave to-night for the south. The lion. T. Mackenzie spent the weekend at the Woreroa Farm and returns to lawn to-day. Sir Joseph Ward and the other Ministers are in Wellington. The conference of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants presented their ex-president, Mr. W. A. Vcitcli, MM 1 ., with a gold watch, in recognition of his services, and another gold watch for Mrs. Veitch. The presentation was made- bv Mr. W. T. Wilson (Paliiierston North") chairman of tho conference and spoken to by Messrs. M. J. Mack (general secretarv) and several other railwaymen. Tho lion. J. T. Paul, M.L.C., and Mr. J. Robertson, M.P., also spoke. Cabled advice from London has been received by Sir Joseph Ward stating that an operation is unnecessary in the case of Mr. T. M. Wilford, M.P., nnd that ho will leave for New Zealand in April. A Press Association cablegram states further that Mr. Wilford is to undergo special treatment at )3agneres-de-Liichon, iii the South of France, near the Spanish frontier. This town has sulphurous thermal springs and a bath establishment. Mr. W. S. Cochrane, secretary for the Anglican Diocese of Auckland, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. Alfred 11. Onne, of Los Angeles, California, arrived in Wellington by tho Maitai from San Francisco on Saturday. Mr. Urnio is making a four of Now Zealand, Australia, Straits Settlements, China am! Japan before arriving back ill America. He leaves Wellington for Auckland, via the Wangamii River, Taupo, and Rotorua, by AVcdnesday's Main Trunk express. Mr. C. S. Nixon, Collector of Customs, Wellington, returns from his visit of inspection of northern offices to-day. Mr. W. 11. Triggs, editor of the Christchurch "Press," leaves for the 6outh tonight.

Mr. H. E. Holladay, representing the Pacific Exporting Co., of San Francisco, was u passenger to Wellington by the Maitai, which'arrived on Saturday. In , Juno of lust year Mr. Holladay visited New Zealand and Australia for Hie purpose of inquiring into the possibilities- of opening up trade with San Francisco. After an exhaustive inquiry, Mr. HolUiday returned to the United States fully satisfied that business could l>9 done. Consequently he lias returned to Australasia, and intends opening a head office in Sydney, with branch offices throughout the 'Australian States and New Zealand. In conversation with a reporter >on arrival, Mr. Holladay stated that he saw great prospects ij» ii n near future for an extensive trade in all kinds of merchandise between Now Zealand and the United States. As a matter of fact, since his last visit to these parts, Mr. Holladay stated that the amount of' business being done between the United States and the Australasian States had increased tenfold. It is his intention to remain in this partcf the world for about two years before going back to the headquarters of the firm. Mrs. Holladay accompanies her husband on his present, trip, and they expoct to leave for Auckland by ■Wednesday's Main Trunk express. From Auckland, Mr. and Mrs. Holladay proceed to Sydney by the Malieuo on March 11. '
