Tho Coronation JJall at Taikorca was opened Inst night', when a concert was given and largely contributed to by a party from I'almcrston. .Mr. M. Craven presided, and tho entertainment proved must enjoyable. There was a largo attendance at Hie annual meeting of the I'nlmer.slou Working -Men's Club last nighi. The anniial balance-sheet and report were adopted. It was decided that extensive additions 1) , . , made to (lie club at an early date, chiefly in the direction of providing' increased accommodation i'or the circulating- library and reading renins. Officers were nominated, and the next election of five members of the committee will take place on Thursday next. -Mr. I. .1. Fake, one of the principal promoters of the Manawalu Boxing Association, and who has made a name for himself as one of the best, referees in the Dominion, leaves here to-morrow to hike up his residence at (iisbnrne. Boxing enthusiasts have arranged to give Sir. Fake a suitable send-o(V. Tho Manawntu tennis tournament is to be held on the Polmerslon Club's courts on Friday and Saturday next. Tho monthly ' meeting of the I'oxton •Jfarljour Board was held yesterday, Mr. 1 , . J. Hennessey in the chair. Several transfers of sections at the Meads were agreed to. As funds were not yet available i'or the purpose, it was decided to hold over the purchase of a dredge. It was left in the hands of the i'oxton members to call for tenders for the erection of a jetty, with power to accept a tender, provided it is not above the estimate. It was also decided to have the M'ctions at the Heads surveyed, provided the work enn be corned out at tho price stated by the chairman and the tenants are willing to pay half the cost. The application of Messrs. Watchorn, Styles, and Scott for the cancellation of leases of sections held by them was notagreed to. At a meeting of the Executive of tho Elaxmillers' Association yesterday it was decided to call a special meeting of members to deal with the request of the union for more favourable conditions for trammers and flaxcuttcrs. Dr. Belt's lecture on "Artificial Kespiration" lost, night was well attended by members of tho St. John Ambulance nursing division. The address was most instructive, and at its conclusion the nurses gave demonstrations of the various methods of applying artificial respiration.
