ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
The Wellington Acclimatisation Society's council, at its monthly meeting, adopted draft regulations for the approaching red deer stalking season, and if the-** are approved by the Minister for Internal Affairs they will be gazetted presently. The recommendations as to issue of licenses include tho Haurangi Forest lioservc (excepting certain portions occupied by Mr. John Martin and Mr. F. Johnston), license £i, limit of heads four; tho Eketahuna Forest Reserve, licenso Xi, heads two; the l'araparaitmu ]!«serve (excepting the area occupied by the Wellington Society as a game farm and deer park), license .£-\ heads two; the Wainiii and Orongo Orongo Forest Heserves (excepting portions occupied by the Wellington City Council and the portion southward of tho Wairarapa lAke), license £2, heads two. The council resolved to pay a tonus of Is. per pair for shags' feel, rcporU having been received of considerable damage done in fish streams and rivers by these birds. The society's manager of tho game farm has distributed to the various subcommittees ot the society and to other persons interested 75 Wallow ducks, for liberation. Tho secretary reported that twonty-one red deer calves had been purchased by the society, ami fourtrcn others bred this season at 'the deer park, 'flip Taurauga .and Mungomii. ami Whangaroa Societies had applied for seven each. The number of fishing licenses issued to date shows a cmvml'.'rahlp shrinkage as compared with the wane period in former vears.
