ACTORS' ASSOCIATION FORMED.
REPUDIATE UNION. Mr. George S. Tilheradge presided over a large and representative gathering of all branches of the theatrical profession, held at the Palace Theatre, Sydney, on Wednesday of last week, when the following motion, submitted by Mr. Ilanloek. and seconded by Mr. Latham, was carried unanimously:— "Wo the undersigned representative members of the theatrical profession, at present performing in Sydney, desire to utterly disassociate ourselves from a bodv of persons styling themselves tho Actors' Union. So far as the business relations with our repective managers are concerned, we ore perfectly salisfied In continue in our work on the present system. Furthermore, we have never been approached in any way by (he so-called body to establish a union, and the only intimation of the suggestion of the formation of the same was the receipt of n circular containing an impertinent and threatening clause, which we all strongly resent, and we beg to place on record our absolute refusal lo be in any wav associated with a suggested formation jv'iicli, in our opinion, can in no way improve the position of actors in Australia." A provisional committee, consisting of Misses Florence Young and Olive Godwin, and Messrs. Claude Bantock, Leslie Holland, W. S. Percy, Fred Leslie, Arthur Greenaway, P. Latham, with Mr. Geo. S. Titheradge as chairman, and Mr. Reginald Carey as secretary, was appointed to form an actors' association "in order to benefit the dramatic profession in Australasia, and to remedy by legitimate methods the grievances' and distress of the present members of the Actors' Union."
