The wool sales have closed. Nine thousand bales were sold for the Home markets, and C6,KiO bales for the Continent, 12,1i0 bales for the United States, and 13.5C0 bales were hold-over. , , . J „ Compared with the closing rates at the December sales, the prices of be;* combing merinos were fully maintained, but warty and faulties were generally five per cent, lower. Crossbrcds declined during last week, and at the close were on a par with the December rates. Best merino lamna advanced live per cent. Other classes were unchanged. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following cablegram from London, under date February 2, with reference to the close of the January sales:— Merinos unchanged. Fine, medium, and coaiwebrcds, superior Quality, tendency up to 2J per cent.; ordinary quality, down 5 per cent, as compared with laut sales' closing rates. The attendance has been large, and competition active. The market is steady, with fair prospects. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cable adv;co from its London omw, dated February 2:-"Thc sales have closed with good inciniry from all branches of the trade. Prospects for all wools nest scries are favourable. Total ouantity held over, 14.K0 bales, of which 2COO bales are New Zealand. The market for all kinds of "K-asy crossbrod.s has a weaker tone Bir.ee our hvit cablerram. Trices for practically all descriptions! of . sheepskins are unchanged. I'i'iee for full-woolled coarse crossbreds show a slight improvement."
