SUMAIARY AND FORECAST. Present indications are for high southwesterly winds generally for a short tinis, with , squally and showery weather, probably much colder, and snow on some of the higher levels in the south, A rising barometer is anticipated cverywherj. Sain has fallen in most districts, anil strong and squally wostcrly and northerly winds blew ip the night, hut have changed {to southerly in many parts to-day. The barometsr has risen slightly in the far north and on the West Coast of the South Island to-day, but has been very unsteady, with a slight falling tendency I elsewhere. J B. V. PEMBERTON. (From Our Special Correspondents.) Palmerston, January 18.—Hca.vy rain fell at intervals to-day, and to-night looks very threatening. A cold northerly wind is blowing. Otaki, January 18.—Fine, but dull. Feathcrston,- January 18.—Showery last night. To-day the sky is ovcrca.st, with indications for more rain. Hastings, January 18.—Rain commenced to fall at mid-day, and continued throughout the afternoon. 1
