When the Wellington Cup acceptors wero announced Inst night tho absenco of tho names of both.Miss Mischief and Byron came as a surprise, as the latter has been a strong favourite 6ince tho weights appe-ared. It must, however, be said that had 'he succeeded.''at the weights, it would have shaken confidence in public form. His presence in the Telegraph Handicap will lend additional interest to that event.

Gladiolo is not to be seen out in the Telegraph Handicap, but she will contest tho five-furlong race at Trentham on Saturday next.

Recently the lviccarton Trainers' Association wrote to Mr. A. E. Whyte, secretary of tho Wellington Racing Club, to inquire as to the construction of the sand track at Trentham, as they intended to approach tho Canterbury Jockey Club with a view to ascertaining whether the latter body would construct a similar gallop at Riccarton. Mr. Wliyto supplied the information asked for, but pointed out that, on account of the'difference between the rainfall at Trentham and that at Riccartoli. tho same track might not be suitable in the south. 110 i-eoommcndod different construction to suit the conditions at Riccarton. The Trainers' Association subsequently thanked Mr. Whyte for tho information supplied, and stated that it was intended to approach the Jockey Club for the purpose of having a winter gallop constructed on tho lines suggested by the Wellington secretary.

Ma Itio Rosette, who has boen on a visit to San Fran, was railed through from To Mahanga station to Wanganni on Tuesday morning. The mare is the property of Mr. G. F. Moore, of Bushy I'ark.

Seraphic is the only member of J. Cameron's team which will bo racing at Trentham. On tho samo dates Seatondale and Thrave will be 'at Foxton, and ■Sleilaris, with Lady Tehuknti, will bo at Wairoa. The last-menlioned pair are, in company with Lamsdorff, to be walked to tile mooting, and will start oil- their three days' journey on Monday next.

Tho Kai-nmu team for Trentlmni will bo brought to headquarters by mail train on Tuesday. On tlio day following the teams controlled by. It. Ciooscmnn and -T. Quinlivnn will be railed through.

The price paid for Bellan, recently purchased by a South Island sportsman, is stated to bo 300 guineas. A private letter received in Napier states that Jockey T. O'Brien is doing well in Australia, and has already ridden some half-dozen winners. The summer meeting of tho Gore Racing Club takes place on Wednesday and Thursday next. TJIO Invercargill hurdle torse, Erl King, who is at the present time in Australia, was a competitor in a flat raco at tho Lai Lai Falls meeting, near Ballarat (Vic.) 011 New Year's l)ay. Tho event chosen for the Birkenhead gelding was the Flying Handicap (live furlongs). Thero wero only five starters, but Erl King, who started favourite, failed to gain a placo.
