LAND SETTLEMENT.
PROVIDING FOR OLD SOLDIERS. Tho question of land settlement for ®oldiei's urged by Colonel Pilkington in his book on the subject was, says the "Military Mail," discussed at a recent meeting at tho offices of tho Agricultural Organisation Society. A committee has been formed, with Major-General Sir F. W. Benson as chairman, and Tilcss-rsi E. T. Scammell and P. n. Ashton as lion, secretaries, to deal with the question. The chief points suggested for consideration included— (1) The establishment of schools of practical agriculture at military stations. (2) Tho formation of groups of agricultural holdings, organised on co-oporativo lines, in which discharged soldiers— Kewrvists and others—could find, employment, lead Jug to independence, on tho land jg this country t (3) Tho opportunities offering, or that inay be offpred overseas, for the settlement of ex-soldiers on the> land—either in groups or individually. After discussion, it was resolved that points (1) >md (2) be referred to the Agricultural Organisation Society to prepare fr scheme on land settlement at homo, and that (3) bo referred to tho Naval and Military Emigration League, to preparo «i full statement dealing with settling exfervice men overseas.
