Tho Public Works Department have already advised that they are prepared to consider tho scheme, and have asKed to bo supplied with detailed information. The whole business will bo carefully gope into by the tramway' engineers almost at once. There' are many details to bo considered, chiefly tho design and brake equipment of trailers, and the possible, necessity of altering certain routes to eli.ninato sharp curves. Before anything definite can be done it will be neoessarv to obtain an amendment to the original Ordor-in-Council, which makes no provision for the running of trailers. It was recently rumoured in Auckland that the Waikato Sanatorium was to be closed or remodelled. Inquiries were made at the Health Department yesterday and these statements wero definitely contradicted. The sanatorium is not to bo closed ond, save for one or two minor stall alterations, no changcs are at present contemplated. The postal authorities advise that tho s.s. Mahcno, which left Sydney at noon on January 10 for Auckland, has on board an Australian and also an English mail, via Suez. Tho Wellington portion is due to arriyc here by the Main Trunk train on Monday irex't. It is common report that a sharebroker who has been in business in Wellington for a couple of years past is missing from his Accustomed haunts, and that several sharebrokers, with whom he had dealings of a financial character, are lamenting his absence. It ia understood that the absentee left for Australia somo time ago, and has no intention- of returning.
