A special meeting of tho Potone Firo Board was held yesterday afternoon U> consider tho question of making certain alterations in tho design of tho proposed now fire station. Tho following members wero present: Messrs. Mothes (chairman), M'Ewau, Kempthorne, Smith, and Short. Inspector ltugo and tho architcct woro also in attendance.

Tho alterations suggested by Inspector Hugo wero tho provision of a social room above tho centre portion of the building, enlarging the bedrooms of tho superintendent's quarters, and minor changes in the locality of firo alarms. Tho board resolved to carry out the minor alterations suggested, but to leavo the question of providing a social room until n later date.

Tile Treasury Department forwarded the required approval to the expenditure of the sum of <£2300 required for tho building. Tho architect was instrncted to call for "tenders as soon as the alterations in tho plans had been oomploted. A snb-com-mitteo was appointed to arrange for tlio raising of a loan of .£1750 to meet tho cost. The condition of the pressure in tho mater main, which has been unsatisfactory for a considerable timo, was brought up a by a statement made by Inspector Hugo. Ho said that, on a recent visit to the town, tho pressure had only boen 021b., instead of 90. Ho understood that tho board relied upon the Gear Company's plant to supplement the pressure when required, and lie suggested that tho company he asked to arrange a test of tho capabilities of its plant in this direction. Mr M'Ewan stated that tho Borough Council was dealing with the matter of tho poor pressure, but so far tho fault had not boen discovered.

The Board resolved to ask tho Gear Company to carry out a test as suggested.

POLICE COURT. A sitting of the Petono Court was hold yesterday, before Mossrs. J. W. M'Ewan, li. Jlothes, and A. Coles, J.P.'s. Ernest Eriss was charged with loitering on tho footpaths, and impeding tho traffic. It was stated that a great deal of annoyance had been caused through'this practice. Defendant was fined 55., in deiault twenty-four hours' imprisonment . Vrcd Flowers was charged:—(l) With using threatening behaviour in tho bar of tho Central Hotel, and (2) with assaulting tho barman, Walter Tulloch. On each charge accused was fined 55., in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Daniel Brien was convicted and discharged on a charge of insobriety, and, on tho application of tho police, a prohibition order was issued against him.
