MR. W. D. JAMES'S DEATH.
.: f . Yesterday moruing, Mr. William David James, a resident of Lipmaa Street,' was found hanging.- Mr. James was a retired building' contractor.- Ho ,ivas married, and had throe children. Mrs. James waa away in the King Country on holiday. ■ At aii inquest conducted b,v Mr. W.. l>. Biddell, S.M.,- yesterday afternoon, Llewplyn James, brother of deceased, deposed that in tho last twelve months the deceased's general health had been very unsatisfactory. Ho had suffered from insomnia, and his eyesight was-failing, owing to an injury to his spine. On one occasion, had been lost in tho bush, and when found was very run down mentally. Witness chanced to go to deceased's house yesterday morning, . and saw through the kitchen window that deceased was hanging by a cord attached to a gaspipo that was close up to the ceiling. A book was lying open near the bed. His clothes were over the back of a chair, his hat 011 the kitchen table, nnd his bowls on the kitchen floor. Doceased was in fair circumstances,. and retired from business recently, lie was chcerful, and was to leave to join hia wife 011 holiday after the bowling tournament. Ho had no family worries, and no financial troubles. Dr. Clay, stated that the cause of death was strangulation, and that deceased had been dead for three or four days. Tho verdict was that deceased died by ' strangulation, the cause, of the act bcinjr temporary insanity.
