Mr. John M'Gregor, the last of a wellknown family who have been "landmarks" of the Mataroa Valley for nearly sixty years, leaves in n few days' time to take up residence in Waikato. Ifv. and Mrs. M'Gregor were farewelled by a large gathering of Mataroa and No. . 2 Line residents yesterday.. At. this gathering some of the oldest settlers of the district were present. At a poll of Waverley ratepayers, held yesterday, on proposals by the; Town Board to borrow ,£3OOO for street-metal-ling, and .61200 for street-lighting, only half the ratepayers voted,, and neither proposal was carried. The metalling loan had a majority of five, and the voting was oven on the other question.
