Colonel Caldwell, master of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, received on November 2.1 the honorary degree of Doctor of Law of the University. When ho was being conducted to the rostrum at the Senate House tho under-graduates present lowered from t,'ie gallery a wax representation of the college crest, which liuiig above tho heads of the proctors. It was ultimately cut down by Colonel Caldwell, who kept it as a present.
The historic Hqso Hotel at Wokinghnm was sold at auction on November 23 for .£2650. It is said that the son? "Molly Mo?g" was written at the hotel, Gray, Swift, Pope, and Arbutlmot each composins ono verse when detained there once by wet woather. The subiect of the son" was Molly Mogg, a dauglitor of the landlord.
