SHIP OWNERS AND SEAMEN.

A COMING CONFERENCE. A conference of representative owners of ships trading on the New Zealand coasts, and of delegates from tho Federated Seaman's Union, will be opened on Tuesday next. This is virtually the resumption of a conference hold some threo months ago, and adjourned pending the settlement of a similar difficulty in Australia by the Federal Arbitration Court. When the adjournment was agreed upon it was , arranged that when tho Australian award was declared, the conference should reassemble and endeavour to como to a final settlement with the award as a guide. Certain of the more important questions at issue were settled at tho first meeting. , It is probable that Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, will be asked to preside.
