a— Annotto Kellerman, tho famous Australian lady swimmer, who has earned a fortune in. threo years on the vaudeville stage of England and America, giving exhibitions in a crystal tank, has contributed an article on swimming, specially dedicated'to women, to the Sydney "Sunday Times." In tho courso of the artiolo who emphasises important points in the following! manner:— 1. Doivt try to. hold your head far out, of tho water... To, <|o so' increases the strain. All that needs to l;o out of tho water is tho noso for breathing. Don't mako hard work of it, for that tiros yon quickly. The strokes should bo slow and complete. Try counting ten during each stroke. ,3. Don't. went any moro clothes than you need. They hinder your movements, and mako tho body much' heavier. Many of tho costumes I seo along tho shoro aro inspired moro by vanity than modesty. i. Don't, abovo all, wear a corset or a tight belt, for these hinder the circulation. Many cases of cramps have been traced directly to corsets and tight belts. 5. Don't swim after eating, and don't eat for an hour after swimming. 6. Don't go into tho water unless tho .body is thoroughly warm. Don't stay in the water after your teeth eommenco to chatter. . . 7. Don't stay in the water more than fifteen minutes tho first time or two. Then you may increase the time by fivo ■ninutis each day. Unless tho conditions iro exceptionally fine, you should never itay in tho water moro than half an hour. — ■— 8. Don't go in swimming on a cold, Jaw (lay, even if the water seems warm.• 9. Don't, try to dive until you have perfect conlidencc in your stroke. Don't j,t auv time try to dive in tluillow water.
