THE PREMIER'S ATTITUDE.
HOPING FOR 'A' MAJORITY OF ONE. HOW DOES HE WORK IT OUT? (By Tclesranri-Press Association.) Christchurch, December 29. A southern M.P., who attended the recent caucus, states that Sir Joseph Ward, against the advice of several members of his own party, is still making efforts'with a view to carrying 6n tho Government of the country, and that ha hopes to secure a majority of one. Southern members left tho caucus fairly convinced that Parliament would not bo called together till May Or June, but a final decision would not be come to until a'ter (he North Island caucus in Wellington. How Sir Joseph is to get his majority is not apparent, unless ho is counting upon getting over a member of tho Opposition, and also upon Dr. Pomare's. vote. The latter has, it is understood, definitely de:idod to support Mr. Massoy, and it is Inconceivable, that any Oppositionist who jhangcd.his cont at tho present juncture .vould havo tho slightest chance of regaining his scat at the next election.
